WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE
Bill Merritt has been making people smile for several years with his unique copper and glass creations. Bill, doing business as Ozarklake Distinct Décor along with his wife Terrie, creates functional garden art in his garage studio near Camdenton, MO. His specialty is hummingbird feeders but all types of garden adornment come from his studio. All the glass used in his art began life as something else-soda bottles, vases, candlesticks, gazing balls, decanters and decanter tops. From common to elegant, glass is united with copper and repurposed into a fun and functional one-of-a-kind work of art. To see pictures of birds utilizing Bill's art, click here.
HOW OZARKLAKE BEGAN
Once upon a time there was a lady who collected everything hummingbird. She accumulated little glass hummingbirds, calendars featuring hummer pictures, hummingbird waterglobes and music boxes, hummingbird art and wall hangings, hummingbird magnets, hummingbird candles and candleholders - every little (and big) knickknack you can imagine. She was fascinated by the feisty little iridescent creatures that swooped and frolicked at her Lake of the Ozarks home each summer.
Once upon a time there was an unsuspecting gentleman who discovered the lady. One thing led to another and soon the gentleman married the lady and her hummingbird fetish. The collection began accumulating only “different” hummingbird items - hummingbird coasters and trays, hummingbird tiles and teasets, bowls and vases, nightlights and suncatchers - more little (and big) knickknacks than you can imagine.
Once upon a time the gentleman and the lady saw a hummingbird feeder made of glass and surrounded by copper. “Bill,” said she, “you can do this.” And thus Ozarklake Distinct Decor was born. Well, the idea was born. The art is ever-developing. Read more >
OZARKLAKE HUMMINGBIRD FEEDERS
The glass I use in my art began life as something else-soda bottles, vases, candlesticks, gazing balls, decanters, decanter tops, and some glass that we can’t identify. From common to elegant, each is united with copper and repurposed as a fun and functional one-of-a-kind work of art. Tube-style feeders are fun, easy to use, and a decorating statement for your garden or patio. Read more >
OTHER FUNCTIONAL GARDEN ART OF COPPER AND REPURPOSED GLASS
Like most artists, I am constantly seeking new and exciting ways to express my creativity. In my search for glass to make hummingbird feeders, I found glass that was begging to be repurposed into other fun and functional garden art. Small glass dishes are incorporated into oriole feeders. Larger glass items become birdbaths. My copper shepherd's crooks carry my distinct look with copper vines and leaves, accented with glass beads. Come into my world and see what can be imagined. HOW TO ATTRACT AND FEED HUMMERS
Unlike seed-eating birds, hummingbirds must have a reason to visit you. That reason is food. Hummers are all about eating and must eat every 15-20 minutes throughout the day. Providing fresh nectar will place you on their "must visit" list. Read more >
MYTHS AND MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT HUMMERS
